Moored at Embarcadero since 2004, the USS Midway was first commissioned in 1945 and has the distinction of being the aircraft carrier to serve the longest. This boat also served in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm before being retired as a museum. You can enjoy a self-guided tour with audio where you will see more than 30 aircraft that have been restored. You’ll tour the galley, sleeping quarters for the crew, the brig and the engine room.
See the early beginnings of this town in the adobe buildings which were built between 1820 and 1870 and located in the State Historical Park. While you’re in the area, visit Presidio Park, which sits on 40 acres and is the home of the first settlements in the town and the San Diego Mission from 1769.
